Here is a picture of some circuit identification labels from a terminal board from Oakington signalbox on the Cambridge to March line via St Ives.

One circuit is marked SN UP-K.M. H.U.-DN
UP & DN can be ignored. SN = single needle telegraph circuit. KM is Cambridge, where is HU?

After a few enquiries.. HG = Huntingdon No1, HG = Huntingdon No2
FU was Sandy(GN) and OY was Royston so HU may not be an abbreviation of the place it is the call sign for.

Aware that some of these codes can bear no relation to names, but wonder if HU was Huntingdon (GE/East) box, - or, if there was a telegraph office at Hunt., HU even more likely to be for there.
[ P.S. Think you'll find Hunt.(North/No.2) box was HK? Not the same HG as No.1, anyway.]

...As long as you don't mix them up with your HRs.
