Hi,

I'm doing some posters, LNER style and wondered if anyone knows any pantone/cmyk reference colours for LNER Locos?

I guess the colours varied and changed over the years [same as ferrari red] but wondered if anyone has any typical values?

I'd like to incorporate some of these colours into my posters as a reference to the old LNER trains, Doncaster Blue, LNER green etc

I can certainly give you the Mansell values for the two main LNER Loco Greens, but have no reference to Pantone.

Excellent, yes please, I haven't a clue what mansell values are but I'm sure with a bit of 'goolge'ing I can find out and find a way of converting those values...

On rereading my post I see that I mis-spelt Munsell! Possibly you have already found that out via Google.

However the readings which I have are as follows:

LNER Doncaster Loco Green - 29E8

LNER Darlington Loco Green - 28E8

LNER Garter Blue - 22F7

These were originally matched in the early 60's by the LNER Study Group for Humbrol (the now defunct Authentic Range) and later for Precision Paints, now Phoenix Precision. Humbrol interreted the colour slightly differently from Precision the generic LNER Loco Green (HR101) being 28E7 and Garter Blue (HR118) being 22E7.

Now the artists who were commissioned by the LNER publicity department were not noted for their accuracy with matching colours, except possibly Terence Cuneo, but then he was a railway enthusiast in any case.

Yes I google'd and found Munsell, and a few convertors too, but looks like I may be able to directly specifiy the Munsell values on my Mac anyway - that'll make it easier.

I hope to incorporate these colours into the pictures not for strictness, like you say the artists used whatever colours they liked anyway, but more as a nod to the old LNER, maybe I'll use them for borders or font colours etc
