A) 29 carriages were transferred in 1926/27 from the G,E. section to the Northern Scottish Area. £815 was allotted to carry out what improvement or alteration to these vehicles.
B) Does anyone have any info about these carriages? Cos I haven't a clue. Were they from closed E.Anglian lines or what?

The GE was still a Westinghouse area so presumably the expenditure was to remove the dual braking gear. There were phases of carriage replacement in all areas but the GE had the highest proportion of 4 and 6 wheelers - were these just redundant because a new CBP had replaced them, but too good to scrap?

The Aberdeen subbies were westinghouse braked until they were withdrawn in 1938. However the GNoS never had any gas lit coaches hence the conversions. There were some NER six wheelers transferred at about the same time, and for similar reasons.

I wonder if the improvement to the carriages put any strain on the motive unit? It might have increased the Firemans load.
