Origins of the LNER Numbering scheme

On these pages there has been much talk of the scheme used by the LNER on its formation for numbering its locos. I have found it is basically the scheme adopted by the formation of the NER in 1854. I dont know much about the other constituent companies but i will attempt to lay out the NER scheme and would welcome contributions from others whose knowledge is greater than mine for other constituents.
Please bear with me as i construct and edit this page, there is a lot of information to fill in and edit. Do add postings if you have other companies schemes so we can constuct a definitive work.
First a little History, when the NER was formed in 1854 the following numbering scheme was put in place and covered the engines of the 3 major constituents of the NER from No1 to No387.
York Newcastle & Berwick engines No1-No244
York & North Midland engines No245-No358
Leeds Northern engines No359-No387
The three companies above included orders being completed in 1855.
As the NER built new engines and absorbed more smaller companies the list grew as below but the enthusiast has to tread carefully as the NER reused numbers from scrapped engines and consequently the numbering scheme was all over the place instead of being neatly arranged by class as in Thompsons 1946 scheme.
NER engines No308-No414 were new builds 1855-1857
Hull & Holderness engines were No415-No416
NER engines No417-No452 were new builds 1860-1861
Newcastle & Carlisle railway engines were No453-No491
NER engines No492-No583 were new builds 1864-1866
West Hartlepool Harbour were engines No 584-No641
NER engines No642-No1000 were new builds 1886-1890
Stockton & Darlington engines No1001-No1294 were taken over in 1863 with 1000 added to original numbers in 1872
NER engines No1295-No1300 were new builds 1880-1882
Blyth & Tyne were engines No1301-No1339, 1300 added to original number in 1874
NER engines No1340-No1655 were new builds 1875-1894
Engines No1656-No1800 were various engines renumbered from the duplicate list
NER engines No1801-2368 were new builds from 1894-1922
Engines No2369-No2392 were new builds by the LNER to a NER design 1923
Engines No2393-No2395 were new builds by the LNER to an LNER design
Engines No2396-No2399 not used
Engines No2400-No2401 NER Raven pacifics 1922
Engines No2402-No2404 NER Raven pacifics built by LNER 1924
Engines No2405-No2542 Were Ex Hull & Barnsley locomotives originally numbered No3001-No3164 in April 1922 but renumbered by the LNER to allow for the LNERs renumbering scheme to commence with the Ex GNR locomotives at No3000
