Pre LNER Railway Heraldry

Post by 52D »

Hi for a change of topic i thought it might be interesting to post heraldry of the LNER constituent companies. Please feel free to upload more and comments on them would be very welcome.
I note the two Scottish companies both have a belt around the badge this is normally used to represent allegience to what ever clan is represented in the centre. The NBR badge consists of two municipal coat of arms Edinburgh & Berwick whatever happened to the other extremitys of the former NBR.
Does the GNoSR badge have the lion rampant of Scotland and the coat of arms for Aberdeen?
I dont want to risk the ire of the York herald so i will try to keep heraldic descriptions to a minimum can our members pass comments on the composition of the other badges.

The North British Railway was incorporated in 1843 to promote the construction of a railway between Berwick and Edinburgh only, the later expansion to other destinations was through amalgamations and aquisitions of other companies such as the Edinburgh and Dalkeith or the Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Nice to see the crests in colour.

I think that it would be apt if the crests were loaded in the relevant constituent write ups; if 52D is happy about that and if they are Kosher....

Yes, I'd like to see what the GN & GE Joint joint crest looked like. I was told that station staff had GN&GE uniform buttons, so it wasn't just on paper.
