Newcastle - Carlisle Resignalling

Was up at Low Row near brampton today, working outside the new Super signal box.
Watched the gangs remove the last bracket signal by cutting and dropping then loaded on to a trailer and hauled away.
Apparently the box is only going to control 10 mile of track initially around Brampton.
But then the area expands first to fringe with Carlisle then the next phase goes to Newcastle.
I do not know any dates though.
So if you want operational shots of boxes such as Hexham and Wylam get in soon.

I wouldn't hold your breath for this happening any time soon. Most project money seems to be getting diverted down south in preparation for some sporting event in 2012 can't remember what it is off hand! this is why the reinstating of the fourt track at Holgate York is not getting done. It would be nice to have either Wylam or Hexham at the NYMR at maybe Pickering perhaps? Maybe Wylam would look good at Goathland. Before the West line is done i beleive Phase 2 of the Durham coast line is to be done first. This will remove the boxes around Hartlepool (if the monkeys don't destroy them all first) Then move up to Seaham/Dawdon area. The starter at the end of the M'boro bound platform at Seaham is a fine LNER? lattice bracket signal. It would be nice to see it preserved maybe at Pickering?

Wylam and (I think) Hexham boxes are Listed so, even if they are closed, would be very difficult for NR to demolish. On the Durham Coast line works are going ahead and foundations for new locations and signals are in position. They seem to be laying underground pipes too - possibly for S&T cables to make it harder to steal them? It'll be sad to see the boxes go, but at least it is investment.

Found 2 photos I took on 25-4-09 as part of the resignalling scheme.
2 roadrailers and a team of men dropping the last signal and a view of the new signal centre covering from Brampton and ultimately towards Haltwhistle and maybe further towards Gateshead.
Welders are installing a new set of IBJs off the crossing.

No sign to be seen of it.
All gone on the date I was there 25-04-09.
It should have been visible on the right hand side of the track in the shot of the new box, which is sited on the South side, Down side of the track.
