NER Time Line

Post by richard »

I'm back to working on Constituent Companies, and it is the turn of the NER.

Taking an existing partial time line and bulking it up from books can be difficult. Is there anything obvious that I've missed?

As you say, the formal opening of the Newcastle and Berwick line was 29th August 1850 (some sources say the 30th), but the line was opened through from Newcastle to Tweedmouth in stages during 1847, the final stage being Morpeth to Chathill on 1st July 1847.

I suppose it depends what detail you want to go into, these are the lists from Tomlinson.

Yes, I don't want to include every single branch line. Just significant lines.

I have a copy of Dawn Smith's Genealogy, but that is a legal work - ie. all the Acts, Incorporations, etc of the LNER and its antecendants. Nothing about actual openings or innovations!
