Where is this?
Okay everyone. I haven't posted anything for a while, so it's picture quiz time again.
Taken around the turn of the 19th century, where is this?
It shouldn't take some of you very long to get it.
Malcolm.

Re: Where is this?
That signal box looks diagnostic.
Also the stone work looks like it could be millstone grit?
NER?

I call Wylam too.
So - did anyone dare tell Stephenson, "It's not Rocket science"?

Re: Where is this?
Perhaps its Chevington from an early view before the overline signalbox was replaced.

Re: Where is this?
A little bit more difficult this time. Taken c1920.
The loco should give a hint as to which company.
Any takers

Re: Where is this?
My initial reaction was Hilton Junction (just outside Perth), but on closer inspection the locomotive appears to be an ex-GCR or GER type - and come to think of it, Hilton is not on an LNER route anyway. So I'm stumped.

Re: Where is this?
I can't recall the name of the junction, but is it the start of the London Extension?

Hi Malcolm,
I'm tempted to agree with Jonathan. I'm not 100% but it certainly has the right topography to be Kirkby South Junction at the start of the GCR London Extension. If it is right the c1920 date is a bit misleading as a second junction was added by the GCR in 1916 for the route to Mansfield. It diverged from the left hand pair of lines in the photo and ran parallel for a few yards before swinging right behind the trees in the centre background.
Cheers.....Morgan

Re: Where is this?
Sorry Morgan...it's not Kirkby South Junction.
The date is correct.
However, you are on the right track (not a pun) with the Great Central.
Just a little geographical shift is required.

Re: Where is this?
Can't remember if it was MR territory or not and, again the topography, if memory serves me, isn't quite right, but I'll take a stab at Trent Junction.
Re: Where is this?
Sorry, it's not the junction for the Heath and the Chesterfield loop, nor is it Trent Junction.
You need to go a little east everyone.
