ROSEDALE SNOWPLOUGHS 7 + 8

The 2 NER wooden snowploughs allocated to the Rosedale branch on the North Yorkshire Moors numbers 7 + 8 are noted as having descended the incline at Battersby on 31st May 1928.
It has been thought till now that they were broken up soon after this date.
However in Peter Tatlows latest book which includes a section on ploughs it is stated that these 2 ploughs were reallocated to Scotland.
Can anyone confirm this? And if possible provide information as to were they went and if possible any later disposal details?

I forgot to mention that these 2 ploughs were 4 wheel rather than 6 wheel to enable them to get over the incline top. But basically the same general outline as most of the remaining Timber ploughs.

NER Snow Plough Diagrams by Ken Hoolehas them withdrawn on the closure of the Rosedale Branch in 1929. scrapped 1931. They appear to have never recieved LNER numbers they are only ones not listed with numbers ,in same book
As Tadlow quotes this book it is a bit contradictory.Good book otherwise just bought it!!

Thats why I am querying the detail on the ploughs.
I am wondering if any new info has come to light since K Hooles book and P Tatlow.
It is about 30 years between them.

This is my first post. I have been lurking on this site for many months and have found it very helpful. I thought it was time to make a small contribution myself, so here goes. The snowploughs you mention were indeed sent north to Scotland. At least one of them ended up based at Kittybrewster on the Great North of Scotland. It was renumbered 770632. There is a photo of this vehicle in Great North Memories, the LNER Era, published by the Great North of Scotland Railway Association in 1993. Hope this helps.

Whilst researching more plough history, I rediscovered this post.
If number 8 became 770632 at Kittybrewster what became of its sister number 7?
Also is there any record of any disposal dates for either plough?
Looked on the GNSR site last night and could not see anything of relevance.

Bryan i sent you a scan a few weeks ago of one of the snow ploughs from that area with a D41 it is just a large shield type mounted on the front of the loco. So i surmise that the two Rosedale ploughs would be a welcome addition to stock in that part of the world.

I am probably on about the same books you guys already have. But isnt there are National Park book all about the Rosedale and its railways . And the Cleveland Ironstone series is well worth a read. They are available from various local bookshops.

I have some of this series about general ironstone mines in the area from Middlesbrough to Whitby. They also cover the Rosedale Branch workings.
If you visit the Lion Inn at Blakey, it has some old railway pictures up on the wall. one of which could be a snow plough picture ?

The photo shows Ploughs 7 + 8 in typical Rosedale winter conditions.
