I am trying to locate archive reports of an explosion and fatal accident at Gorton Loco works in 1946. Three men were killed and others injured, including my father who suffered the loss of both legs. For family history reasons I am trying to gather as much information as possible. Can anyone inform me of where any archived records may be stored and if such records are available for scrutiny. Bob Norris

You may wish to try your question through the Great Central Society, not sure of the contact details but worth googling.
Gorton was part of the Great Central Railway until 1923 and then became part of the LNER, but it’s likely the GC Soc may have details. Good Luck

A number of drawings from Gorton are at Manchester MOSI, but not sure about work records, or reports.
You might find information about the accident in the records of the Manchester Evening News, or other local
papers, which might well be at local libraries.

I am pretty sure any employee records are likely to be stored at KEW Public Record Office.

I forgot what may be the most important source of information, which is the government.

Since it was an accident on a railway property, it would have been investigated by the
Railway Inspector, or by then maybe the Board of Trade, and might well be accessible
via the BOT web site whatever it is called these days.

My Gran was the nurse on duty.
I believe it was the 15th March 1946

My mum tells me that she turned someone upside down due to leg injury.

I wonder …. Have found some info online
