If anyone hasn't come across this book it's essential reading.
The Trials and the Triumph, Railway Memories No.26 published by Bellcode.
An utterly compelling account of the transition from steam to diesel, from someone in the frontline on a day to day basis.
He was based in the Eastern Region so plenty of LNER references.
A real eye opener as it gives an honest account of the deficiencies and advantages of both traction alternatives, and I felt dispels some myths on both accounts.
