As some of you may have heard Lincoln railway station is now completely closed for 3-4 weeks while re-modelling is taking place.
This will mean the end of the steam age trackwork and platforming arrangements that have existed since the 1930s, with the previous demise of the joint avoiding line there will be nothing left of the original layout except the architechture of the GN buildings, St Marks GC station is completely obliterated as is all traces of the Holmes yard now covered by B+Q , Morrissons etc, etc.
A sad conclusion for a system that once radiated lines all over the county.

I'm not sure I agree with this post. The existing track layout at Lincoln means that effectively there is only one platform (old no 5) for incoming trains from Newark, Sheffield and Doncaster. Those trains therefore have to exit the station, cross over the through tracks and then use no 6 or 7 platforms for their return journeys.

My understanding of the track changes is that they will allow those trains to arrive and depart no 6 and 7 platforms without this procedure.

No, the biggest crime committed on the railway layout of Lincoln IMHO (apart from the closure of branch lines and the removal of the LD&ECR)was the removal of the avoiding line in the mid 80s. With the usual amount of long-term strategic vision, the powers that be didn't foresee that the 'Joint' line would become heavily used by freight avoiding the ECML. As things stand, those trains now have to go through Lincoln Station, which means that the level crossing on High Street is in use up to 40 minutes in evey hour, so I'm told.

Yes there have been a lot of mistakes made in the area, the avoiding line and the LD being two of them, the amount of traffic over there at night was unbelievable.
I don`t know where the new layout will be controlled from, I`m assuming West Holmes , I saw last night that there has been a new facing crossover installed on the GC line to Immingham to allow bi-directional running through the station.
I can`t see why it is going to take a month to do this work, when I was at Ipswich the whole station area was done in two weekends with night possession in the weekday nights.

The Lincoln project is not just for a month.
It is programmed for the next 3 years. So plenty of disruption in the area.

So it may be but the station area hardly warrants a month long possession, its not as if it is a large scale project comparewd with the work that has been done on previous installations.
It will certainly lose passengers in the short term as several phone calls to Radio Lincoln have confirmed-- people are buying cars rather than travel on buses.

I think the idea is to install colour light signals and replace the Sincil Bank, Durham Ox, Lincoln Station and West Holmes signal boxes with one box at the same time.

I believe the whole of the Grimsby - Lincoln line is being upgraded, which means Barnetby and Lincoln will no longer be Meccas for semaphore fans!

The High Street level crossing will remain a bugbear however.....

Shame about Barnetby, surely it would make sense to use the Barnetby--Gainsborough section more heavily, obviously they couldn`t run straight to Newark by this route though.
Further to my view from Pelham bridge ( I have to visit the hospital every night ) there are new ( facing ) crossovers on both the Immingham and Sleaford roads .

On top of everything else, I understand the traffic light work at Broadgate/Monks Road/Lindum Road/Clasketgate/Silver Street is a real hassle!!

Yes it has for rush hour traffic I`m sure , it doesn`t affect me too much as I don`t tend to travel in the rush hour , traffic has been queuing right over Pelham bridge to the top of Canwick road at times.

How is the Lincoln track change/resignalling project going?

From what I've seen in Lincoln recently all the Semaphore signals are still there. There's a lot of new trackwork with new crossovers between the Level Crossings.

apparently all the major trackwork has been done and the signalling is being sorted through the year, there is a resignalling village on the old East Yard
