Hi All,
Quick question, can any of you guys that were around Kings Cross passenger loco in the 70's remember what the inside layout of the office at the station end of the building looked like?.. I am currently planning/building a P4 model of the fuelling point and as this office had windows on three sides, thought I ought to put something inside it!..
Also, can anyone point me in the direction of any pictures of the running lines side of the building before the fuelling shed was built?.. the nearest I have are some oblique shots from above the tunnels and the office/toilet end side on in 'The Book of the Great Northern' by Peter J Coster..

Evenin' all..
My apologies.. my original post was very vague on reading it back, sorry about that .. what I should have said was the brick built building (the Elephant house?) between the running lines and the stabling point which had the single road fuelling shed attached in the early 60's?.. most of the pictures I have found so far have the metal/glass shed building obscuring the wall which faces York road platform making it difficult to accurately place all the windows.. the room I was referring to was the office (?) on the left hand end of the building when viewed from York road platform..

Of the hundreds of times I've been over to the Pass Loco and the loco's I've move in and out of the fueling shed, I've never been in any of the rooms in that building, although I know that there was a staff room for the fitters an office and a loo and probably a small store room, it was just a case of that it was there world ( the fitters) and we kept out, they never came over to the foreman's portacabin, sorry to disappoint.
Most footplate staff kept away as it stank of diesel oil, was very slippery and there was large fueling pipes everywhere, a really good tripping hazard..................and when it rained

Just to add a couple of points to Mickys response, I recall that as you arrived on shed with an engine the pass loco foreman (Siderod Sid being one) would display a small white board with "PIT" or "SHED" printed on it, to indicate where he wanted you to drop the beast. Also in the foremans office was one of them CCTV displays that showed how all the Up mainliners were running.

I thought there was a CCTV, in the foreman's office, but couldn't remember exactly (moldy old brain) the 'shed and pit' sign I had forgotten about, but I do remember an incident, when it dropped down the back of the desk, and couldn't be retrieved straight away, I spent most of the night running out to the incoming crews and telling them where to go, they also told me where to go, to, typically it was pouring down with rain, which in turn steamed up 'Siderods' windows, next job was find some newspaper, to clean the windows, always in short supply as loco crews used it to clean there windows, Agghhh !

Remember the pass loco buildings, the office at the south end was at one time the foremans office before it was moved around 1968 over the other side of the yard. Sharing the office there was a foremans assistant who checked the Train Crews coming in for an engine, but if I remember right it was only a day shift job. The name of Alf Bartlett comes to mind, a nice old boy.

Yes you're correct Sandwhich regarding the office at the end of the brick building in the Pass loco. It was the foreman's office prior to the portacabin and was very small as I remember, with the foreman's desk at the end looking out toward the station.
