Re: Kings Coss Passenger Loco
DP2 looks generally darker, i.e a bit mucky. Maybe the Deltic is just ex works

Re: Kings Coss Passenger Loco
Ay up!
DP2 used the same colours as class 47, post refurb, for the lower green band - the Deltics had a much, much paler band.
Be interesting to see if Heljan get that right....

(I see that No.133 'dolly' is 'off'; probably for the next loco coming into the milk yard before reversal at 227 to enter 'Passenger Loco'.)strang steel wrote:Another Kings Cross photo on Flickr, but is it my eyes, the lighting or the photo emulsion?
Because the light green band on DP2 looks a different shade to that on the Deltic.

Thanks for that BB. I never realised there was a difference with DP2.Blink Bonny wrote:Ay up!

That was the way I saw things worked whenever I was observing, though somehow, I have a nagging doubt that the lever-frame's locking enforced things to be done that way.Micky wrote:" It was fairly hard to see those ground signals from the front cab of a diesel loco that was setting back!.StevieG wrote:(I see that No.133 'dolly' is 'off'; probably for the next loco coming into the milk yard before reversal at 227 to enter 'Passenger Loco'.)
When the 'dolly' came off inside Gasworks tunnel for the setting back move into the Milk dock (amids all the diesel exhaust fumes especially with a Deltic) you just hoped that the road 'was off' all the way??.

Will have to try digging out my notes of every lever badge, sometime.

Re: Kings Coss Passenger Loco
From working in the old and new boxes at the back desk (telegraph boy) I can't remember seeing any move between the tunnel and station/yard that didn't involve clearance of all signals. I'm pretty sure the "in between signals" on gantries or the ground were for route holding and route indication only so I suspect the interlocking enforcement was indeed there.StevieG wrote:That was the way I saw things worked whenever I was observing, though somehow, I have a nagging doubt that the lever-frame's locking enforced things to be done that way.

So right Micky, M1, M2, and S for the slow road out the hole (Moorgate). Very happy days.

Re: Kings Coss Passenger Loco
Those route indications F1 and F2, replaced the M1 and M2 route displays, Micky, although the lines concerned were always the "Fast"s while I knew them : They probably officially had been "Main No.1 " and "Main No.2" at some time - goodness knows how long before though.
I would guess the replacement indications happened when the blinds had to be changed for the platform re-numbering that took place (sometime between 1971 and '74? - I've got a definite note of when, somewhere), when 1, 2, 4-8, and 10-15, were changed to 1-13 (there was no route [unsurprisingly] into the Down Moorgate line platform [was 16, became 14, from Hotel Curve tunnel] : And I don't know if '17' was ever officially changed!)

Re: Kings Coss Passenger Loco
In case of any mis-apprehension Micky (or others), the changeover that John quotes was what, these days, is called a signalling 're-control', and, and as you may be aware, was when operation of the existing layout and signalling (well most of it - several of the old ground discs placed intermediately through the layout were abolished) was transferred from the old 232 miniature-lever frame box to a 'temporary' IFS switch panel in the new (& still current) Power Box building.
The Kings Cross remodelling and resignalling (remember all the "Clearing the Throat" publicity?) ran from about Feb.? to April 1977, ending with the KX station and Belle Isle area being the last part of the whole scheme to go onto the 80' 'proper' NX panel, and taking the IFS panel out of use.

Re: Kings Coss Passenger Loco
. . . but it was completely re-interocked to modern standards, for instance eliminating the ability of starting long trains ahead of the signals and making it impossible to get a pilot of the front of one if it attached vans as the route couldn't be unlocked. Thereafter (after we discovered the hard way) the train engine had to do the attaching.StevieG wrote:In case of any mis-apprehension Micky (or others), the changeover that John quotes was what, these days, is called a signalling 're-control', and, and as you may be aware, was when operation of the existing layout and signalling (well most of it - several of the old ground discs placed intermediately through the layout were abolished) was transferred from the old 232 miniature-lever frame box to a 'temporary' IFS switch panel in the new (& still current) Power Box building.
