I would say the train was on the Down Fast, passing through Ferme Park goods yard, the coaches on the left are probably on,Up Goods, and as there being steam heated, there on there way to KX, ECS.
I would also say the photographer is standing at the bottom of the platform ramp (Down Slow)

Surely shes just passed through Wood Green going North as that looks like Ally Pally in the background.
Re: Where is this please?
Manna, Micky & others have it spot on - that is definitely Hornsey, taken from the ramp of the down platform. The Ferme Park flyover is deceptive, it lies a little way to the south on the curve, behind the coaches.
Here's a wild guess with the loco. It's in very good nick and looks to have been bulled up in the recent past by Dick Ball and his gang at Top Shed. Are we looking at sometime in 1959, taken after it's "little trip out" in May with a certain W.Hoole?
p.s. small point - it's Peter Townend, not Townsend. Mind you, I never dared called him Peter in the 1970's - he was just "Guv'nor"!

Re: Where is this please?
1959 would seem to be about right, as the loco has yet to receive the small overhead warning panels, but has the later BR emblem on the tender.

G'Day Gents
Seeing that the photographer is at the bottom of the platform ramp and is at a very low angle the flyover is obscured by the loco, if it was taken from the platform, you may well have been able to see a bit of the flyover.

Re: Where is this please?
Thanks to manna and others for providing the extra detail.
If we are still to get other suggestions for the location, can contributors please be a little more imaginative? I'll kick off by saying the train is plainly about to traverse Glenfinnan Viaduct.

If you mean the slightly different shade of grey on the line to the right.Boris wrote:Has anyone noticed the differing chairs on the short section of rail.

I think that it looks like a short length relay and top dress of ballast.
Just newer chairs and new ballast for about a 30ft length.
