I'd like to endorse 65447's sentiments above.
Amongst these was the requirement for means to lash them down on the boat - this was usually achieved by pivoted loops on the body side or underframe.
I had a discussion with an ex-railwayman about these when I gave a talk on ferry traffic. The visible loops under the buffer beams of these vehicles don't look strong enough to be used to lash them down and all the photos I have in ferries (mainly taken by Dr Ransome Wallis) show the tie down chains wrapped around the buffer stocks.

The earliest vehicles I have modelled which had loops on the solebar for lashing down are the French primeur vans (like that in the NRM) of 1936.

Very good news.

I hope there will be some on sale at the LNER Society Golden Jubilee Symposium at the NRM on 9th May, at which Peter Tatlow will be speaking, and hopefully signing some copies too.

All welcome, whether members or non-members.

Ditto. Now that I actually have a model railway with trains running that look like they belong on ER (too young to have seen the LNER, only its wonderful legacy) not a little thanks to the output of RTR of late; there's this hankering to make some of the big wagons built in the thirties that we'll never get RTR- and then find the excuses to run them.

From the horse's mouth on RMWEB:

"LNER Wagons Vol 4B" has now been printed and is being bound, it is on schedule for publication on the 1st April. It will be available at the York show via the Bill Hudson Books stand and at Ally Pally via the Book Law Publications."

Don't stand between me and the Billl Hudson stand on the Saturday morning!

And for those not attending any of the big shows, I'm assured by Bob Pearman that he will also have stocks at the same time. so I'm presuming that the other booksellers will too. Bob quite often does free postage in the UK - check his website for updates http://www.pearman-books.com in a week's time...

BTW Jonathan you're slightly out of date - the books are already bound :)

I would imagine Simon ('Autocar Publicity') will soon have stock too, if you want to support your local neighbourhood autocar project.

If you want a copy signed Peter will be at the LNER Society gathering on 9th May at the NRM.

Many interesting speakers and modellers will be there too. Including members of this Forum.

Book Law didn't have them on sale as expected at the Ally Pally show but he is expecting them Wednesday 1st (and we all know what that day is!) and has promised to post it to me post free.....excellent service from them as usual.

Post on the 'dark side' by Simon Castens states that he will have stocks on April 1st (no joke) when delivered by Amadeus Press - apologises for missing Ally Pally but assures stocks will be available at York show.

Indeed, Embsay will have a pile of them, though we're not sure if it will be this week or next - they are coming through a wholesaler.
