36C - Frodingham shed

Post by 60800 »

I'm wondering if any plans or aerial photos exist for 36C (Frodingham shed) - Google maps appears to show an almost intact 'open' road structure leading to the remains of the shed, leaving a lot unanswered when compared to the few available photographs. I'm interested in learning more about 36C, most importantly how it was composed, especially in the early BR era when a variety of LNE types were shedded there.

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated :)

I wrote a short article for Traction Magazine about Frodingham Depot a number of years back, I will try and find it and PM it to you if you wish. I remember that whilst researching it that there were a lot of photographs of the construction of the shed in Railway Gazette, i dont remember which year off hand though, but it was at the time the depot was being built so if you have that date thats where to look. If you dont have the mags the Search Engine at the NRM does have a complete set, so a trip to there would be a good idea.

Thank you so very much :)

It's reassuring to hear that my local shed has been well documented. Construction photos would definitely help if I decide to model the shed in the future.

A few Tweedmouth men went to Frodingham on Tweedmouths closure, one of them does the occasional talk, a chap called Longbone. Look around the area for talks. he did one on the bridge at Keadby and covered a bit of the old power station trains.
Hi interested in the area served by 52D. also researching colliery wagonways from same area.

There are a number of photos of Frodingham under construction in LNER Sheds in Camera by John Hooper, OPC, 1984

Abebooks has one going for £7.95 + postage

'especially in the early BR era when all but two of the O2's and a number of other LNE types were shedded there.'
This is not correct. What is your source?
Good Luck with the photographs.

Must admit I can't find my original reference on O2's shedded there. Thanks for the correction, and the incorrect segment has been removed from the original post :)
