My regular mate at Enfield driver Chris Chapman was electrocuted at Hertford East whilst sweeping coal-dust from the roof of an L1. I was not there thankfully. Chris was lovely man and great to work with, he usually let me do plenty of driving. On the changeover from steam to electric quite a few enginemen were electrocuted by overhead wires all over the BR network.
I once fired to Chris Chapmans Dad Ernie? who was a driver in the No 3 link at the Cross also Chris's brother Ken who was a driver at Enfield. A proper railway family there.
