What would have been the LNER's next showpiece?

Coming back to my original post(!), how would the LNER have celebrated national events like the 1953 coronation?

Hi Earl,

First up the LNER would have asked Buckingham Palace what the queen's favorite colour was.

Then they would have repainted, and renamed appropriately, an A4 especially for the event.

I am sure the Queen would have asked for her father's name. (King George VI).
Then we would have a revamped Coronation-like set, redubbed Coronation II, hauled by a series of similar locos, on selected routes.

Well according to Google, the Queen's favourite colour is gold.

That does it for me. An anodised gold colouring for an A4, with similar offset shades to that done on the 4 early Link engines. For example, some grey/blacks. Rename it Golden Queen if you like.

The Coronation II train would have a similar gold hue, with grey/black lining in the right places.

Standard LNER lettering I reckon. Stainless just wouldn't stand out.

Platinum has a sort of silvery colour to it so wouldn't stand out against a gold background really.

Nice!

Dulux Gold is a rich yellow/gold. Bronze (old gold?) could be applied to the valance/skirting, and the smokebox casing. In fact any bronze/brown could be used for that, and also for the numbering and lettering.

The lettering on the gold coaches could be done in a rich bronze/brown.
This colour scheme was used on the streamlined Union Pacific City of Salina in 1934. Yes, I know, shudder, shudder!.... In saying that, the LNER scheme would be muted to show less of the brown, as described above.

In fact, metallic paints may have been available by 1953. The gold and the brown could be metallic. The Norfolk and Western (USA) used metallic paints on their red passenger diesels in late 1950s.

As for KX bunting, a mix of yellow and brown would be fine, thankyou Bill.
