Holgate Turntable - York
As a postie delivering mail in the York West area, I frequently deliver to the flats on Holgate Road overlooking the trriangle near the iron bridge. Workmen have been at it in the central area creating a giant pile of mud and rubble. Two weeks I noticed the turntable pit there. I hadn't noticed it before and wondered if had been excavated. Then last week I could see lots of bits of curved dressed stone laid out neatly near the back of the carpark by the Cinder track. Looks like the whole thing has been dug out and is waiting to be filled in once and for all. I heard rumours that development is likely in the area. Anyway, it seemed slightly sad to me, but I suppose people have to live somewhere.

Ay up, Pipp!
Is this on the outside of the curve round to the yards?
If so then its the site of York South Shed, home to the station and yard pilots.

If I ain't here, I'm in Bilston, scoffing decent chips at last!!!!

Pipp, it won't be houses. This is part of Network Rails plan to build it's new LNE HQ in York and guess where it's going! There are also plans to build a new Signal box to control half the universe given the latest plan to have about a dozen boxes to control the whole country. Aparrently NR got tired of waiting for York council to decide what was going to happen to the teardrop site so went ahead and did their own thing.

Cheers for the info. I missed out seeing the Shed by a few years. I had often wondered what would become of the site. Maybe some jobs too.
