Abbreviations on Station plans

Post by pincherrn »

Hi all,

Bought myself the Middleton Press book "Hexham to Hawick" at the weekend. Covers the BCR. Really good book. Has Track plans for the stations which is to help me with my model railway when I get round to it. However on the plans there are a number of abbreviations, most are self explanatory or I can work them out. But does anybody know if there is a list of standard abbreviations anywhere. Also on most of the plans there are a number of "Tanks" marked what would these be for, they aren't water from what I can see as they don't match up to the photos of water towers etc.
Would appreciate any help. Sorry if these are simple questions but not had much dealings with track plans before.

Cheers

Ignoring the obvious of water tanks, which may still be correct for tanks being slightly remote from the actual watering point.
Tanks wouldn't mean Air tanks for Pneumatic points or Gas tanks for point heating?
