South Cave station on the Hull & Barnsley

Good afternoon all

A group of friends and myself are in the early stages of planning our next exhibition layout. This will be a scale model of South Cave station on the Hull & Barnsley Rly. We have already obtained a number of drawings and photos, but as ever, you can never have too many. I've trawled the internet and got most of the information out there. Is anyone aware of any other sources or even better, have details of South Cave? We are aware of sources such as local libraries, H & B Stock fund and the NERA.
Our plan is to assume the line never closed and so we are modelling the early 1960's.
All help gratefully received!

As an aside, those of you who may have seen the model of Market Weighton station on display at Beverley Minster will see the sort of size we are aiming at (that was some of our handywork).

There are several threads on this site, try searching for Hull & Barnsley or stations, e.g. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4716&hilit=South+Howden. Railway Memories No. 12, The Hull & Barnsley Railway, Bellcode Books also has a couple of photos taken at South Cave in early 1959 and of course many showing typical traffic along the line. Sounds an interesting project.

Hi all,

A most interesting project.
This would mean the whole route was still open, at the time you suggest. Not just the P&P service into Hull?
With some of the etched kits now available a 1930s view, or earlier, is possible, if time consuming.

Thanks for all the replies so far and yes we are assuming all the route stayed open. That way we can have through coal workings plus passenger traffic a little more substantial than a push/pull. This, though has caused a conundrum as holiday traffic to the coast can't work straight through due to no direct connection to the Brid line (it would have to work into Paragon and then run round), so we are looking at the likes of occasional specials such as military or football/rugby.

As for pregrouping, it is a wonderful idea, but the track layout was modified (I forget the date, but Mick tells me so) and so this would preclude that.

The project isn't a quick one as we have other stuff on the go, but hopefully it will appear sooner rather than later as the group are keen to get going.

In case you haven't already done it, I would suggest contacting either the local library or council who will probably have a stock of 25" to the mile OS maps from about the 1940's which are invaluable for track layouts and signal locations.
I have one photo here http://www.flickr.com/photos/pinzac55/3682185034/ which I took in October 1977 after walking from Brough station.
Also it just occurred to me that the late Tony Peart was a fan of the H&BR and Curator of the Doncaster Grammar School Museum so they may have some useful stuff.
