The KX12
Can anyone remember the group, I think called The KX12, which used to meet on platform 10 at Kings Cross and occasionally visit various depots in the London area. I went on a few trips with them and I always remember the duplicated sheet containing details of each visit and locos that were seen. I never knew the origins of the group but seem to remember that the leader worked near Liverpool St. It was very useful for getting around depots and was always well informed on what was coming in and out of Kings Cross. The years 1966 to 1971 were when I participated in a few outings and it would be interesting to see what became of the group.
Re: The KX12
Can't help about that group, they were a bit after my time on KX No. 10 and other places. But there were several such groups, including Ernie Middleton's celebrated weekend shed-bashing coach tours. They started and finished at Kings Cross, in York Way if I remember rightly, and were usually well supported by people from at least as far out as Wood Green, Then there were the Hornsey Bridge mob, of whom I was one. When shed permits were not that hard to get I sometimes even organised a few Sunday visits myself. With a party of 12 people you could get permits for Eastern Region depots which (unlike the other regions) were not available to individuals.
