LNER Compositions
I would be interested to in any information about typical LNER train compositions. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a site that specialises in these but I am afraid that any formations on there are mainly named express formations These were the trains that people wanted to see and were so noted, the small more 'ordinary' formations wern't much noted apart from the 'train spotter' sitting on the country stations. Give my site a try and see if you can find anything there. I have formations for the Eastern Region of BR, don't know if they will help mind.

I am afraid all there is on my site is pretty much all I have the 'ordinary' formations are 1958-1959 and I have nothing earlier I am afraid. I plan on extending my site with the help of keen enthusiasts that were perhaps 'train spotting' (I hate that phrase) in thoes days. I also look for carriage workings and train marshelling booklets that were produced by the railway companies, but these are harder to find the futher back you go.

P.S do you get model rail? They did a feature that went through some of the formations.

A typical set of gangwayed stock would have a corridor brake both ends with mostly corridor stock in between.
eg. BTK,TK,TK,TK,BCK.
With perhaps catering cars and more first class added in depending on route etc. The LNER was fond of portions with through coaches removed from a long east coast train. There were daily 2 coaches from/to Whitby I believe. These were attached to a Scarborough train then added to the regular local set at Malton to go to Whitby.
Buffet and restaurant cars were built for particular routes and services. Tourist stock was formed in sets together such as:
BTO,TTO,TTO,TTO,TTO,TTO,TTO,BTO.
As Karl says only east coast sets are easy to find.

I was once shown a LNER printed circular that gave details of coach marshalling for the LNER in the Manchester area; the thing that surprised me at the time was that CLC stock was used for some LNER workings and vice-versa.
However, it was just the once. These circulars do exist but where they are (outside possibly the NRM) is another matter. Worth keeping an eye on the relevant collectors markets I should think.
