Appeal for Information

Post by limitofshunt »

Dear All,

There's a couple of reference projects I'm trying to get started online, and I'm hoping that you might be able to contribute to them. Apologies to anyone who's also got this via Yahoo Groups - it really just is in the interests of reaching as many people as possible! If you've already seen this, why not inflict it on a friend who could help??! :D

They don't involve money, foreign princes or giving me your first-born children in return for your Spanish lottery winnings! Basically, there's two things I'm looking for information for, both for the website http://www.limitofshunt.org.uk

(1) Railway Document References
I'm trying to build a comprehensive list of document reference numbers used for official railway publications - those ERO, BR, RT, etc numbers seen at the tops of the front pages. I've got a relatively complete list of North East area documents, but if anyone can add to the list for other documents / areas then I'd be most grateful.

(2) Signal Boxes - Signalling Information
I'm also hoping to put together a reference on Signal Boxes that goes beyond what's currently available regarding dates, lever frame type, etc. I'm trying to record the actual signalling controlled by the box - levers, functions, plate descriptions, etc. Not necessarily the diagrams (although those would help and would be added at a later date) but enough to know what the box did and how.

Feel free to take a look at the website - there's some basic examples up there already - and if you feel that there's anything you can contribute please drop me an email. I'm more than happy to acknowledge you, and the aim is to build up a useful resource for the more obscure bits of railway interest (which will all be public domain, freely useable). If you've got any questions please ask.

Thanks for your time!

Best wishes

Jonathon
