STATION CODES

Post by christopher.bunting1 »

I am pondering the station code numbers printed on tickets for the M&GN Joint which where introduced during that railway's management by the LNER after 1936. ( example Fakenham M&GN station 2549 attached). I have also seen them for other LNER stations and assumed this was an LNER initiative. However I have now seen them on some tickets issued by the LM&SR. Can anyone inform me, or point me in the direction of any resource that will help me dispel my ignorance? Was it a Clearing House concept? Thanks for any pointers.
