I am trying to get a fullish picture of freight traffic over the Whitby and Malton in the days before closure.
Working from various documents, I have established that there was a Class 9 train, trip no. J17 so I guess 9J17, at 0830 from Malton in Summer 1962 worked by Malton No.1 goods loco/men.
Malton shed closed in April 1963; power for the Whitby goods was supplied by York thereafter and there are a number of photographs of B1s on this work.
The goods yards at Levisham and Goathland closed as from 27 April 1964.
Traction Archive DVD No.4 Heritage DMUs in Yorkshire contains a Malton-Whitby DMU ride filmed in 1964 or 1965, which passes a Class 40 hauled goods with headcode 8K55, which sort of fits in with the Scarborough line services which seemed to be 7/8K50-59.
Can anybody tell me any more about the Whitby goods service after Summer 1963?
Did it still start from Malton?
Did it start back at York?
Timings?
Reporting/Trip number?
Any information would be gratefully received.
