Leamside Line

Post by PinzaC55 »

I'm currently modelling the Washington area of the Leamside Line in Trainz 2019 rail simulator but I'm finding it hard to find photos and info.
One particular question has me scratching my head though.
In the V of Washington South Junction there is a rail connected site simply shown as "Works" on the OS 1967 map https://maps.nls.uk/view/188154084
however this isn't shown on the 1951 OS map and without any idea of what it was called I can't search for photos of it. I can't remember seeing it from the train window around 1979 and the site is occupied by a housing estate now.
Can anyone help ?

Well I found out from a Washington local history site that it was Calders & Grandidge timber yard, opened in the 1950s and closed in the mid 1970s.
