Horsey Question

Post by STAFFORDA4 »

I am trying to establish the dates of the Inaugural Burghley Horse Trials in 1961.
A4 60003 Andrew K McCosh headed a Royal Train from Kings Cross to Stamford on 19th June 1961 complete with the 4 Lamp-Headcode and white cab roof so I assume that was for H.M The Queen.
It would seem that The Marquis of Exeter ran the first trials at Burghley House that year but I can't seem to see the exact date to link the two. Do we have any keen equestrians out there who are Iron-Horse followers too?
Thanks. Eric

Burghley Trials has always been an Autumn event.

The date I have is 21st September 1961, but you can verify this with the Burghley event administrators if you need it from the horse's mouth, so to speak...

I can't remember not having a horse at some point.
