I recall as a very young lad travelling from Kings Cross to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne to catch the Fred Olsen Lines service, Braemar or Blenheim Ship to Kristiansand Norway. It's my understanding this was a three times a week Summer Service. The train used to pull up right alongside the jetty we then went straight onto the ship. There were no car ferry's in those days. Research shows the name "The Norseman" was originally on the LNER train from 1931-1939 then BR(E) 1950-1965. I would love to see a pic of the train, was it A1 class?. My next project would be to source an N gauge model train with carriages. I am still a child at heart. 😁

For that length of run it would have a pacific, or if the traction situation was tight the second string, V2. Other than A4s which were reserved for the fastest services, you can take your pick.
