L.N.E.R. badge
I have my Grandfther's L.N.E.R. badge with a 4-6-0 engine and tender on and the words RAILWAY SERVICE. On the rear there is a number55816. Is this the owner's LNER number or the issue number of the badge ?

Not 100% sure, but I think, it may have been a 'War Time' badge, the 'Railway Service' was a way of showing why the wearer wasn't in the Military.

Re: L.N.E.R. badge
I have the LNER wartime service badge that was my fathers. He was a Premium Apprentice at LNER Darlington Locomotive Works during the war.
His number was 4919. Yes it does look like a GWR 4-6-0 loco with the tapered boiler. Not noticed that before.
Tried to insert photo but site doesn't seem to want it.
