Hornby Cock O' The North into Earl Marischal

Hi all.

With Hornby's P2 not too far away (hopefully) I've been considering having a bash at converting 2001 into 2002 (as built).

So far I can think of the following jobs:
1. New valve gear (comet V2?)
2. Raise running plate & build new front running plate with 'kink' & modify original wind deflectors to fit.
3. Add steam pipes & later deflectors
4. Build new cylinder fronts with conjugated bits
5. Remove the bulge on the right hand side, just behind the smokebox (I don't know it's purpose) & straighten the handrails accordingly.

Can anyone think of any more? Just typing this list has made me doubt its feasibility, but I might have a crack on the Railroad version.
(Below are some very nice Mike Edge built examples)

The bulge on the right hand side casing was in connection with the ACFI water heater.

I suspect you may be able to modify A3 cylinders to do your conversion, but if I were you I would bide your time as I suspect that Hornby will eventually do all variants - according to informed sources there has been more interest in C of T N than any other new model of late!
