They've also revealed they've managed to reduce RRPs on a lot of carriages wagons (including MK1s)

That looks really good! (A shame about the moulded cad handrails though...) Despite working in N gauge, I'm very tempted to get one of these when they come out. Even if this is only to help me with my own 3D CAD of Cock o' the North in N gauge!

Excellent in itself, but a top view would be most enlightening on the question of whether the boiler casing is of a faithful shape ar of the all too often modelled "just parallel" cop-out form. Nice to see the bit of grate linkage under the firebox ion the driver's side rather than just the obvious linkage on the other side. Even the Loveless O Gauge models failed in that respect. The slightly wonkily applied handrails, pipes and reversing shaft on the side of the boiler don't give away many clues about the true shape of the side.
I'd LOVE to know the exact width over the casing at the rear edge of the smokebox especially.

Certainly looks very, very nice. Can I justify one on the GC mainline? No. Would I care about that? To be fair, probably not...

Wonderful looking loco, and for less than 70 pounds, that will be very good value.
Look at all those rivets on the boiler top, it'll keep some people happy for weeks

A couple of other observations after scrutinising the images, along with the help of Woodcock29 who was here last night:
Are the cab rear edges turned in, either at all, or sufficiently? They look flat in the front three-quarter view but fall of light in the side view hints that they may be turned in.
A pity about the moulded handrails on the cab which will be awkward to replece without damage to livery and lining. It doesn't seem logical to save money in this are but then syll supply (probably) futile plastic lamp irons which almost any modeller could fit for himself in much better metal if he really wanted them.
Still, it looks very good, better by far than many an attempt at building either the ProScale or Nu Cast kits and probably better too than any of the old limited edition brass MegaModels P2s that I've ever seen. Shame about the chunk cut out of the boiler bottom ahead of the firebox to clear the motor - with a better motor and mounting that could definitely have been avoided. They do look remarkably like fine RP25 flanges on the coupled wheels don't they, suggesting that wheel and chassis dimension may well be spot on, as I was told by "a man who knows".

I am mystified as to the tooling up of yet another LNER eight wheel tender when one already exists suitable for no.2001 - the standard non corridor A1/A3 tender, surely? If this is just for the Railroad model, so be it and I am sure lots of modellers (myself included) will be happy to be able to do the mods to improve it (and perhaps Hornby can then offer this tender with their new Railroad 4472 model, thus opening up a raft of modelling possibilities? An excellent cross pollination possibility)
I have no criticisms for it as a Railroad model other than the plastic buffers, ala Tornado and 4472, are a total nonsense. I can't believe metal buffers (unsprung) would push the price up that much?
Other than misgivings about the chassis (more Railroad Tornado and less 42xx please) I am very excited for the P2. If Hornby get the balance right by making the Railroad model and main range models suitable for their markets, this is potentially the model of 2013 sitting right there.
Just please make sure all handrails are separately fitted on the main range model please Hornby.

I hope the final prototype model from Hornby straightens out the handrails and LHD steam pipe. Should be much straighter than they are according to photos I've just looked at.

Sod the bendy handrails etc....it's a pre production model and WOoow I want 12 of them.
