Hornby Gresley Full Brake

I find it amazing that following publication in the last Model Rail of a photo of the new Hornby Gresely Full Brake that no one has seen fit to comment.

Perhaps this is not of interest to people?

Great news, I will end up buying one or two, no doubt, regardless of the dubious body profile. I'm not so confident in my coach building skills to build a kit one as yet...! (Or cut up a ready to run one!)

I dont get model railway mags generally, only now and then and mostly MRJ, so I missed that one.

I've been waiting for our local shop to get the sub's in, If I get a full brake as well I'll have 6 of the buggers.....mmmmmmmm they are my favorite carriage.

Having lurked for a while marvelling at this forum, this thread is something that I can add to.

Here is the shot that appears in October's MR. Clearly there is a tumblehome but look at that £36.49 price tag - - should we expect a full interior with lights?

On the same page, there is the Rairoad D49 and on the facing one pictures of the Hornby B1 and the teak suburbans. Shall I put these up as well?

Yes the tumblehome is better which can just about be seen in the photo. Regarding the beading, have a close look at the photo and tell me what you think?

It looks to me like the beading is in the right place. Presuambly the bogies are 8ft wheel base and the solebar spacing has been sorted out as well. If so all the boxes seem to have been ticked this time.

Unfortunately not. The budget only stretched to a new body with reuse of existing components.

Thats a good price when you consider the full cost of a MJT kit inc bogies, painting, glazing etc etc. As i have no Hornby 60'-0" carriages I might be tempted after seeing that pic, but I will wait to see it in the flesh. Hornby have done well to listern to all the complaints...good on them.

I suppose that is progress - considering that the prototype was first suggested to Hornby at a brainstorming session at the MRC in April 1966!

Also not so bad when you compare with the price of continental models, which for a bogie coach seem to be £40-£75.

With 4 daughters, I know what Father Christmas will be bringing me!

On a more pratical note, were these semi-permanently coupled up in sets of 4 or am I getting confused with Quad-art sets? If so, what were typical set make-ups e.g. TB-T-T-F or C-T-T-TB (and did 8 coaches make a typical suburban working)? And if these were to sell well, what chances of Hornby extending the range to include lavatory corridors and a shorty brake?

So many questions!
