Does anyone know what colour running-in boards, station signs were painted by the LNER in the pre war period.Research so far drawing a blank , black and white pictures suggest white lettering on a black background! I know the Eastern region used white text on a deep blue background , was this based on the colours the LNER used?

David Adair's "Modeller's Giude to the LNER" doesn't give a date range, but says:

Ground black with white inner border and black outer border, lettering of white.
Supporting posts: black for about 2ft 6in above ground/platform; the rest white.

Thank you Richard.
I also have the Modellers guide to the LNER.
Brian Haresnape's LNER livery book states white on blue hence my confusion.

I don't have Brian Haresnape's book. Could it be that they changed the colour at some point, or the blue was so dark that it looked like black on many pictures?
