Hi everyone, my project is to build a diorama of the GC&M joint shed at Widnes (Tanhouse Lane). At first I thought to build from scratch but I,m not that talented. I have a photocopy of a photograph from the Ron Dyer collection dated 1936 (I have been unable to locate an actual photograph) and after looking around at various kits it seems to me that the Dapol engine shed kit looks a fair representation. I would welcome any suggestions

Could you post a photo[copy] of the shed? [Or Malcolm, do you have a photo?...]

If we have an idea what it looks like, then - certainly in my case - it would help with the suggestions.

I know of various engine shed kits, from Bilteezi, Metcalfe, Peco, Ratio, Superquick, Walther, Wills etc. If one of these could be used, even with some adaption, this might be easier than a scratchbuild project.

Hi, I,ve looked at the shed kits you suggest and only the Dapol kit looks anything like , in fact with a little bit of kit bashing 4 kits would make a perfectly reasonable model. I have scanned the photocopy onto my desktop but, I do not know how to transfer it to the forum

Go to the reply page, then look at the area says submit, just under that it says 'browse' click on that, that should open up 'the my documents area' click on the photo, then open, it should then come up in the'Filename' box, then it's submit, go on you know you want to???

Look at the Scalescenes shed with the parts in it you should be able to make a very good representation of the real thing.

I can see what you mean about the Dapol kit. I don't know the Scalescenes one. Any preferences for modelling mediums? I scratchbuild in plastic (mostly Wills) when I'm modelling for myself, but mostly work in card when I'm building commissions for other people. It's easier to work, and somewhat compulsory when you're modelling for Metcalfes!

What do people think about the Townstreet engine shed? I see some similarities, but have doubts about how easy it would be to alter/'bash' pieces.

I bought the Roger Griffiths negative collection a couple of years ago and have two of Widness Tanhouse in 1935 ( 7185, 6030). That part of my collection is in store at my parents, but if you dont mind waiting till about new year (when i visit them) i will scan both for you

Hi everyone, first I have opted for Dapol, mainly because it is available now in my local shop, I bought 3 today and they have promised the 4th by next Saturday, also they are cheaper (£5.60) and I think plastic lends itself more easily to kit-bashing than card or resin. Second , yes I know that one it,s one of Harry Townley,s, I have been promised a copy but not got it yet, and Duncan that's brilliant , thank you very much, yes I can wait. Tomorrow I will dry fit the parts and see what needs to be done, let you know next week

Those sheds in the pic look very much like the old Airfix Kits ones, anyone remember them ?.

I remember the old Airfix kit Engine Sheds, I've got three! the oldest two would now be 42 years old, I think they've past the time test, with flying colours

morning all, did a dry run on Sunday, using blu-tac and sellotape and worked out only need three kits, I did it like this. Sides 5 & 6 will need to be cut down as there were only two windows in this section, viewed at the same angle as the photocopy it looks pretty convincing, keep you informed.
