Pigeon Van Livery

Hi
Can anyone assist with the correct pre 1936 livery for the LNER BY Brake Van also known by many as a Pigeon van. This is a non gangwayed 4 wheel vehicle.
I have a Chivers model to paint at the mo. All the model versions I have seen have copied the preserved example on the North Norfolk Railway which is Teak livery with full lining with Black ends. This I believe is fictional livery and whilst very nice I think it would be in Teak paint again with Black ends and White lettering as its a NCPS vehicle??

There is an excellent picture of a diagram 120 van in Michael Harris's LNER Standard Gresley Carriages. The livery looks very dark in the picture, but I can't tell if it's varnished teak or not.

I have checked the text but there is no reference to the finish on these vans.

They were numbered in the carriage lists, and were fitted as passenger brake vans. So I don't really see why they were not given standard passenger livery. To put it another way, if they had bee intended a NPCS the would not have been built of teak with panels and beading.

Thanks Bill some good points. I trust unlined Teak is the way to go

I would imagine so. I believe that lining was only applied to the full brakes for the "top services", and standard post-grouping LNER livery for non-corridor stock was black ends.

Hi, I'm involved in the NNR C&W Dept. and can confirm that the lining is incorrect, it should be unlined. However, the restoration team thought it looked too plain unlined so added it. Otherwise the teak finish and the lettering, black ends etc is absolutely correct.

Progress so far. A picture has confirmed Teak livery and unlined. Coach is similar colour both sides camera has decided to record as shown
