Can any one tell me of a supplyer of 7mm Push Pull coaches of the type osed on the Alston branch?

I have an photocopy of an article from Railway Modeller from a couple of years ago about a 7mm kit of Push pull coach. I photocopied it for reference as I will buy & build a 4mm version one day as they ran on the line to Ponteland out of Newcastle, which is where my late father came from.

From memory I think it was a Connessiur kit, but not a 100% sure. When I find it I will confirm that.

Thanks Bill but I am a total novice when it comes to LNER coaches. I saw some pictures in the Oakwood Press book on the Alston branch pages 8, 59, 84,& 87. But I don't have a clue what diagram they are.

The NER association produce facsimilie diagram books which would give enough outline details to identify a particular carriage and it's diagram number. http://www.ner.org.uk/

D&S Models do a clerestory (Diagram 116) and an elliptical (Diagram 162) version of the Van Composite Driving Carriage. I'm not sure whether there were any other diagrams that were fitted up for auto-train working.

As far as I can see the Alston branch never used push & pull coaches, and the fact that a passenger engine was out shedded there would tend to confirm that.

I think you have two choices here, either post the photos here so were can give you an ID of the coaches, or say that almost any combination of third and brake composite was used at some stage on the branch and go from there.

North Eastern design make a 7mm NER all 3rd carriage kit (with rtr option too if you happen to be fabulously wealthy!) Brake carriages are to follow apparently.

What era, specifically, did you have in mind? The NERA 1932 Carriage Workings book shows the Alston branch set as 2 x BC (1-4 and 1-5). There is a further note that one BC is detached when possible, but 2T are attached as required.

It may be possible to work out specific carriage diagrams from this information. Those in your photos look NER rather than LNER to me.

The double headed working above was a regular working in case forum members are interested it was a balancing turn ISTR.

Hi all the period I am looking at is the mid to late 1950's. I shoud explain that I am a total newbie when it comes to the LNER being born and bred in deepest Surrey. I used to model BR (SR) in EM about 30 odd years ago and have now come back to the hobby and want to model O gauge. My wife would like me to model the North East as she comes from Seaham.
the reason I am interested in Alston is that we visited the South Tynedale rail way in the summer and I bought a book on the Alston branch. This branch ticks all the boxes and even had a connection with a NG mineral railway.
I have no idea about NER diagrams etc. but would like to find a source of suitable coaches to run on the branch.

These photos are a bit small to see well but here goes

Picture 1: NER D.160 Composite; LNER Brake Third, probably D.319 which was steel sided or D.246 which was wooden.

Picture 2: NER D.63 Third ex-composite; NER D.127 Third; NER D.125 Brake composite. The two elliptical roofed coaches are the branch train the other is a Saturday strengthener.

Picture 3: I can't see this one at all well, but the first coach looks like a Gresley corridor third.

Oicture 4: This is an old NER six wheeler in use as, probably, a stores van.
