Hi Tony,

As far as I am aware all the V2s built prior to WW2 were painted Apple Green to reflect their express/express freight status. After the war I'm not sure how many (if any) made it out of wartime black before being absorbed into BR.

I hope that this limited information is of use to you.

V2s 60800 to 60875 were completed by August 1939 so I assume these were all in apple green.60800 to 60804 were turned out by Doncaster ,60805 to60871 by Darlington and 60872 to 60875 by Doncaster.Production started again with 60876 at Doncaster in May1940.
I hope this is of interest

Thanks for that info. I have picked up another "Coldstreamer" on TradeMe very cheaply. If as you say they were all apple green in the 1930s all I need to do is remove the nameplates and renumber which makes it much easier than a total repaint. GREAT I am all for the easy life.

Beware i seem to recall that Darlo & Donny painted locos slightly different to each other, did Darlo paint jobs have black cylinders and Donny paint jobs green? Its a long time ago no doubt someone on here will respond positivley.

Thanks 52D I will have to pick a Darlington number I think 4804 would be OK I have a piccie of that then all I have to change is 4 to 0 without removing the whole number I have some matching Fox numbers. I am sure you guys will let me know if I have got it wrong.

Hi Tony,

Just a quicky, did the loco run with the type of tender that the GF model has or did it run with one of the earlier group standard variants?

Hi Steve
I think the Farish/Bachman tender is OK as 4804 was a later build.
I was aware of the cylinder differences because I have had to be careful with my A3s to make sure that I got them right as all my A3s are repaints.

Other way round, old chap.

Darlington green, Doncaster black.

Sorry
