hello and good evening I hope I have put this in the coorect slot, I am a north eastern modeller and am very interested in the lambton collieries system, I hope to model a small? rake of their hoppers in oo gauge I had thought they were dia p4 10 1/2 tonners, but when I have found some decent pics and a good dvd I am now not so sure. there is a very good article on the lambton locomotive site (running an edwardian railway) in which according to historical letters the l h j c bought one heck of a lot of ner 10 ton hoppers.I have the dave green kit for a dia p4 waggon and proportionally it looks the part rounded ends but it is only a 5 plank waggon whereas the lambton wagons where plank on a particular dvd there is shown a couple of 5 plank wagonss more or less identical to the afore said kit so is there a slightly larger wagon similar to the p4 finally the p4 looks to be a smaller version to the 20 tonner but that i think is to big for the lambton system thanks

The NER/LNER/BR did sell a lot of the NE area wagons (and locos) so they did crop up at collieries. From the pictures I've seen, P1s (chaldrons) and P6s (20 ton hoppers) were common - no doubt other types were also sold on in large numbers. Also designs would have been copied/modified/etc.

From your description, I'm not sure what it is that you're trying to identify? Something that looks like a P4 but with a different number of planks?
If so, it could be a P3? These were 8 ton wagons with 6 planks and the characteristic P4 curved ends, but about 9in lower in height above rails.

P5s were a similar size as the P4s, rated at 11 tons, but with straight ends. The "box" shape adds the extra half ton in capacity.

thanks for the reply I understand what you are saying about the wagons in question yes I know that the ner/lner sold off a lot of stock to the collieries both the lambton system and londonderry system bought a lot of wagons I have seen pictures of the 20 tonners supplied to the londonderry system, as for the lambton wagons they wern't as big as the 20tonners basically the same style and not as small asthe 10 1/2 tonners I shall come up with an answer somewhere and keep you informed thanks again

They could be their own design or modification. The NER only had the curved ends on the P3s and P4s. The P3 was smaller than the P4.
