N Gauge conversions

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else had thought about what existing models could be coverted into other type/classes. Currently I am thinking about two possible conversions, both using Union Mills models as a starting point.

The first is a conversion of a B12 into a B2 as previously discussed on these boards. The two main problems I can see with this are that the wheel base isn't even close between the two and second that the B12 is slightly shorter than a B2. Would this really be noticeable in N gauge?

The second I have a little more hope about which is to convert a J25 into a J15. The main changes I can see but looking at pictures are moving the dome forward, changing the cab into a GER one and fettling a GER tender using BH Enterprise kit and a Fleischmann tender drive I have. However, the boiler looks like it might be pitched slightly higher on the J25 compared to the J15 - any thoughts?

Cheers

Hi Steve,

How about a Union Mills Q2 and B12 into C2 no. 3271? This had inside cylinders and should be an easy enough conversion along the lines of your C1.

To restart and old thread.

Looking at making a Union Mills J11 into a GCR Class 2 (LNER D7). Ok, so the boiler is 1.2mm too wide in diameter and the firebox 1mm too short, but with a new footplate and splashers on a basic 4-4-0 chassis, it looks like a pretty simple conversion

Thanks Will,

I've been thinking about using the V2 to produce a more accurate A1/A3 body. Lengthen the boiler, modify the cab and add splashers and you're almost there... Now can the V2 chassis be modified into a 4-6-2 arrangement with correct valve gear?
