Im currently building a few etched 4mm kits of LNER wagons etc & the one i am doing at the minute is a LNER 10t cattle wagon & im struggling with the transfers for it. Can anyone show me any photographs of the wagons & what marking would have been on it. I know the color was red oxide with black bottom white roof can anyone confirm this for sure?? It says those colors in the instructions but i have a red oxide on the body right now & it doesnt look correct maybe once a set of letters & the rest is done it will be fine.
Cheers
Simon.

Hi Simon,
This should really be in 'Model Railways' - I expect one of the moderators will move it if they spot it.
What source material are you using? For LNER wagons the last edition of Tatlow's LNER Wagons is the latest available. It's being reissued in 4 volumes so you might get one cheap on Ebay or Amazon. OTTOMH there are three or four photos in there.
What kit are you building? Do the instructions give you any advice? You've summed it up pretty well in your OP in terms of paint. Lettering varies depending on the era you're modelling. LNER or BR? Pre or post 1936?

Yes it probably should. I'll move it.
Do you have transfers for it already? If not, someone like HMRS or POWSides probably have some that are suitable?

Looks more like a North Eastern design to me.

Hello Simon. Most LNER wagons were unfitted, so they were painted grey. Those that were fitted with Westinghouse or vacuum brakes were painted red oxide. However, all brake vans, whether fitted or unfitted, were red oxide. From 1923 to 1936, the lettering was similar to the photo of the cattle wagon above. After 1936, some of the lettering was moved to the lower left corner, where it was written in 3 or 4 inch characters. For the cattle wagon in the photo this would be
NE
10T
(Running Number)
It should also be pointed out that the cattle wagons built by the LNER and most of its pre-grouping constituents were rated as "large". The exception to this was the North Eastern Railway, all of whose cattle wagons were "medium".
Good luck with you project and hope this helps.

Indeed, that's the North Eastern design as sold by 51L Models.
