I am building some Ian Kirk LNER coach kits for the corridor third and corridor brake 3rd.
Does anybody know under which side the battery boxes are mounted; corridor side or compartment side?
Examination of photographs seems to suggest either compartment side or that there is no hard and fast rule!

What era are you building them in? My understanding is that before the 1950s (I don't know exactly when) they'd have been both sides as one side would be charging as the other was used. Later a regulator box was fitted which allowed simultaneous charging and discharge, so only one set was required.
Those coaches for which I have Isinglass drawings (Gresley and Thompson) show them both sides and there are no notes about when they might have been fitted with regulator boxes - if they ever were.

I suggest to give Steve Banks a call. He is a high quality coach builder is is extremely well researched on LNER and Pre-LNER coaches, and used to deaing with the Kirk Coaches.
