Union Mills Q2

I've seen pictures of this and the tender looks like a group standard 3500 gallon tender. Can anyone confirm if I am correct?

In every photo of I've seen of a Long-Tom they have always had Great Northern tenders. I can guess that the tender was chosen to fit the motor, but does anyone know if this arrangement has any basis in prototype beyond just the possible?

can't give a definitive answer, but I share your concern as I've never seen one running a group standard tender. (and that includes in the relevant Yeadons register)

What really makes me doubt it is the mid 30's withdrawal date for the class- why would they fit new tenders to an old design? Indeed, LNER policy seemed to be quite the reverse, with a lot of new and rebuilt engines been fitted with Pre-group era tenders to save money; the D49s and associated Robinson tenders spring to mind for instance.

Isinglass models sell the drawings so it would be a cool project to fit a GNR tender!

Union Models do tend to use Group Standard (or similar for the other railways) with many of their models. It has the size, is an off-the-shelf design for them, and was fitted to most of the models they have produced.

There is another mistake with the Q2: None of them survived to receive a BR livery!

I've changed my tender for an approximation of a GNR pattern tender using a cut down A3 tender body on a V2 tender frame (both available as spares from Graham Farish). I've not got a pic of my Q2 to hand but attached a pic of my J6 which using a tender made from the same components - its not quite right but a lot closer than the group standard tender used.

Must be the new one - the latest issue doesn't have an ad from them (they don't advertise in all issues).

Looks like he's re-running a number of older models. We had the B12/3 and D20 last year, now these.
