Looks like the Banana Van is a variation on the GE van that Oxford announced last year. Appears they lack the end vents.

I'm curious as to the history of this Banana Van as the Oxford info implies they were purpose built for banana traffic whereas Tatlow suggests the LNER converted the last batch of 100 to banana vans - not that it really matters one way or the other!

The Tatlow vol 1 has it that a final batch of 100 standard GER ventilated vans 'formed the basis' of banana vans delivered to the LNER in 1923; while vol 4A has it that the last 100 of these GER ventilated vans were converted to banana vans delivered in 1923. Different descriptions for the same process.

Whatever, sensible extension of use of the tooling by OR.

Rerun of the vans this year in the LNER version

LNER banana vans (bauxite livery)

- LNER banana vans with post-1936 LNER lettering (bauxite)

- BR banana vans (bauxite livery)

- Southern branded banana vans (apparently these are accurate as the LNER swapped some stock with the Southern due to changed maritime traffic flows!) Hull closed and traffic went to Southhampton instead early 1930's.
