I'm part of a group who, for the last 10 years (although I joined rather late) have been making an EM gauge model of South Pelaw Junction on the Tyne Dock to Consett line as it was in the late 1950s/early 1960s.

Here are a few photos, all taken by Tony Lambert.

I saw this when you had it next to the Bongo Club in the badlands of the 'Boro. It's a magnificent piece of work.

We're still in the Boro but in in slightly more salubrious surroundings :D

That's amazing ! I love the attention to detail in the 3rd photo where the gas lamp is slightly crooked at the top.

As we still don't know when the layout will be out and about again, we've got a video of the layout here:

I'm currently building the Leamside Line in Trainz 2019 and you can see my version of South Pelaw at 8.45 minutes. I actually built the South Pelaw bit a few years ago but abandoned it so some signals etc are missing.

Was this in MRJ a few issues back?

Also, it looks like someone is building almost the exact same location in P4 :D ...that couldn't possibly be you....could it?

It was in MRJ 271 and, yes, I am building my own version set in the late 1960s through to the closure of the steelworks in 1980. When I started research for my own version I had no idea that this layout existed but, having made contact with the group building it and having visited it a couple of times I was asked if I wanted to join in.

The version in the photos and videos that I've posted so far is EM. My own version of the same location is in P4 and is still in the early stages of construction as shown below - these photos are a few months old but, as the layout is not at home, access has been somewhat limited over the last 12 months...

Lockdown has, however, allowed me to make a start on some of the signals, a mix, mostly, of scratch built and MSE parts with servo control:

In addition to working on the South Pelaw layouts, I also have a plan for a small shunting layout based in the Quayside in Newcastle. To this end, I'm getting close to completing my EM Gauge Judith Edge kit of the ES1 electric loco that ran from Trafalgar Yard to the Quayside:

Very Nice,

I have the 7mm version of the Judith Edge kit to build for myself at some point.

My good lady did a rather nice painting of No1 as preserved at the NRM
