A project I have wanted to turn into life was creating a Peppercorn A1 in wartime black
LNER PHOENIX 3136. Yes I know LNER Peppercorn A1s where not around in WWII hence the name
Phoenix.

Aside from the LNER spacing on the tender...that does look incredibly good in black.

I did not do the transformation myself but I am more than happy with the look.

How common was the use of LNER in wartime black? I was under the impression that a simple NE was favoured.

It looks rather North American like that. Finish the smokebox and deflectors in an aluminium paint, and that'll seal the deal.

Very handsome indeed.

At one point I thought about removing the smoke deflectors .

hate to be pedantic, but only the smokebox would be aluminium, it was supposed to stop the paint blistering from the heat, for that matter the firebox below the running board would also be silver.

you could always mark it out as a passenger loco and paint two-tone grey

I'm somewhat tempted to subtly convert an A1 or A2 to American styling to gift to a friend of mine living in wisconsin; add a pilot (cowcatcher), remove the buffers, add a headlight and bell and stick Union Pacific on the tender, let's see how many americans would know that it's british at a glance :P

for that matter a britania would probably work better

Fitting sound to just about any loco is possible.

What I ment was had anyone fitted a sound unit due to the fact this model dose not have a cable leading to the tender.
All the tender inside as is some metal weighted plates & no socket .

in that case then it would have a speaker in the loco itself

Would the sugar cube style speaker needed to be fitted inside the locomotive then.

it depends how much space there is. You could always send it to a company like Digitrains or Olivia's and have them fit it for you
