New Through Station -Building a Garden Railway Part ?????

Hi Again,

Some more piccies of the new through station that I have been working on lately. The station is to have a couple of main platform, one forming the main platform with the main building, with two bays (one from either end) and an island platform for through and stopping passenger.

There will be a further road for goods traffic, with sidings off, including a goods shed.

The main platform as you can see is finished, just requiring the turnouts to be made in the workshop (sometime over the winter months!?) and then fitted in place early next year.

The goods sidings/shed baseboard has to be made and fitted yet, but the main support pier is ready in place.

The station building and the signal box are on made by Geoff Penzer (G.R.Penzer Models, Somerset) from a "cementious" material. They are quite good, reasonably detailed (outside railways don't always need a lot of detail - they easily break!) and quite robust. The signal box at the station I have added extra detail to give it the North Eastern feel.

The gas lamps (only one finished at the moment) is made from a Lochgorm (Highland Railways) kit for the lamp top, suitably modified for the NE feel and the base and post/ladder arms ar turned up in the lathe and soldered/silver soldered together.

The couple of milk churns are turned up in the lathe in brass, silver soldered together and then coated in soft solder to get the silver look. Stainless steel locating blocks are screwed to the baseboard and have a treaded rod protuding upwards through the platforms to locate the platforms in place. The milk churns and the gas lamps, which are threaded in the base, are scewed down to secure the platform. This allows the platforms/buildings to be removed in the worse weather times of the year.

The platform is made from plywood, suitably treated to "weather proof" them, then the tarmac surface is the overlap piece of torch on roofing felt. The platform edges are cast in a stonecast resin, secured to the platforms by reheating the roofing felt and pressing them in places whilst the felt is in a "semi-liquid" state. and painted with acylics.

Looks the part - you just need a stopping service - a G5 or a V1 or something like that with a few coaches...

Hi Richard,

I have an N2 just lined up for that purpose, running local services into the bay road - in bits at the moment awaiting time to get the chassis sprung. I also have a C12 to build - they used to run locally - Louth-Grimsby areas.

As a friend said when they saw the pics - a peaceful, sleepy country station - just waiting for the peace to erupt with the roar of an A3 or A4 thundering through!!! Can't wait - taking too long building it!!
