For a moment there I thought we were finally going to see the model itself rather than development shots. Seems odd that the J15 release date is now a month earlier than the D16/3, which is a reversal of what we have been execting for a while now, and we had pre-production images of the D16/3 several months ago.

Even if it isn't precisely ones chosen area, it's an attractive model of a very ubiquitous loco genre.
You could almost pretend it was something else ?

I know I will.

Might that be because Hornby has spread its production across more than one manufacturing source, or perhaps because the D16 has more detail variations/combinations to get right, does the panel think?

Hornby's latest news update now indicates 05/03/15.

(Though the locomotive information still shows 01/02/15.)

It sounds like the first J15s are expected in the UK this week. Although there does appear to be a lack of clarity regarding how many and which distribution channel(s) will see them first.

But that is as you say the Hornby website, with the Hornby announcement e-mail pushing its recipients towards the improved Hornby website pre-order facilities. Recently Hornby appears to had limited initial deliveries that sold predominantly via its website with only a few going to some of the larger box-shifters/retailers, who then received further supplies somewhat later.

Not certain what Hornby is up to these days but it is playing games with the sales channels and its customers, and brushing very close with competition law.
