NuCast V2 tender

G'day all
Many years ago I purchased a NuCast V2 from Model Railways at King Cross. The kit has stayed in a box for over 30 years.
About five years ago, when I returned to modelling, I purchased a Nucast V2 that needed a repaint at a good price.
I looked at the unbuilt kit this morning and the tender is completely different from the built V2. The kit toolboxes are high on the front coal shield, and there is no door to the coal space indicated. The sidesheets seem the correct pattern for the high front version, with the small cutaway section at the front.
The built kit has the same sidesheets, but has the toolbox doors indicated are much lower on the front shield and a door to the coal space is indicated. It has certain similarities with Dave Alexander tenders.
I have looked through this forum, the RCTS green book, Yeadon, and other books, but cannot find a pic of the front shield of a V2, and I don’t have a drawing of the V2.
Am I right to assume that the NuCast V2 has the incorrect front shield?

I can't specifically speak of the nu-cast kit,but I wonderd if one is the low front tender and one is the group standard one with the higher front plate.

I believe that NuCast may have produced a earlier 4200gal tender than the one usually included in their kit. That said the front of the tender is not really suitable for a V2 and more in line with that used on the B1. I wonder whether the built V2 you have is in fact a Bristol V2.

These may help of three of my 7mm V2 Tenders From 60925, 60902, then 60925 again & finally 60810.
Fairly obvious, but both 60810 & 60902 are the group standard & 60925 is the low fronted type.
Hope these may help.
Regards,Derek.

Afternoon all
Thanks for the replies. I have stripped the V2 tender from the already built model.
On the left is the front shield and chassis from the early NuCast kit.
On the right is the front shield and chassis from the ready built model.
Now that I've stripped the tender, it doesn't look like an Alexander tender.
The left hand tender front looks like it will need replacing, but I wonder if the right hand tender front is accurate?

As previously stated the later Nucast front is of the type used by the B1 and I would add the Peppercorn K1. Not sure that there is an easy way out as the Nucast tender depicts the welded variety. I would get a copy of the Isinglass drawing of the 4200 gal tenders as this generally covers most of the variants .

Afternoon all
Thanks Pebbles, I have a number of Isinglass drawings but none show the 4200 gal tender. Looking at their catalogue, I see they do a drawing solely of GS4200 tenders. It looks like I shall be ordering a drawing after the holiday.

This is for earlswood nob, and I apologise for not being able to use the sites full facilities. The Bristol V2 was one of a number of engines produced by that company, in many respects its not as well formed as the NuCast but for example, it's cab roof was a much better representation. Whilst its a bit of a fag, as with the NuCast, lengthening the footplate forward of the smokebox may help with other areas as I think they may have followed the Skinley drawing. Beware of taking directly off the Isinglass V2 drawing as it appears that the length back from the rear driver may be slightly over size although the quoted dimension is correct. As far as the tender is concerned try Dave Ellis for a K3 type as this fits the first few V2s.

Good morning all
Thanks for the replies.
From the pics, a good model of the V2 is obtainable with effort.
The tender was assembled with superglue type adhesive and fell to pieces after a couple of hours in the paint stripping bath. I often wonder about paint finishes as the tender had a single coat that fell away in large lumps, yet the lining was good. I use primer on everything including plastic, as do the modellers who post on here.
The front shield still has differences, but is better than the NuCast article.
I have a spare SE Finecast tender from the K3 that I intend coupling to a GNR tender, so that will enable me to have two different tender versions of the V2. Dave Alexander does a high front tender kit, and his kits go together well.

PS I have no connection with the suppliers mentioned other than a contented customer.
